New Printing Solution Closes Critical Document Security Gap
Software Imaging Enables End-to-end Secure Printing Through the Introduction of PrintSec™.
Oxford, United Kingdom - March 13, 2006
- Software Imaging, a market leader in printing and imaging technologies, is pleased to announce the launch of PrintSec™, a new secure printing solution that addresses significant security holes in existing enterprise printing systems.
Document security is a major concern for today's organizations. The need to protect personal and financial information has led to strict privacy legislation being introduced around the world and has created significant pressure for organizations to protect sensitive data or risk a major security breach and the resulting media and legal exposure.
In response, printer manufacturers have added a variety of security features to their devices (for example, features that can "hold" a sensitive document on the device until the end user enters a personal identification number (PIN) or swipes a security card). In practice, however, such solutions fail to offer true end-to-end security, leaving open a gap that can be easily exploited.
PrintSec is designed to eliminate this gap by securing the weakest link in today's printing infrastructure - the routing of data over a network from the desktop PC to the print device. Using industry standard security technology such as Private/Public key encryption, Secure Socket Layer (SSL) and HTTPS, PrintSec offers printer manufacturers uncompromised end-to-end secure printing across enterprise networks and the Internet.
"Secure printing has become a critical concern for our
partners and their enterprise customers," explained Kevin Jampole, Vice-President of Sales for Software Imaging, "Both
device manufacturers and their customers require a much higher level
of data security than is currently available and must protect themselves
from potential liability."
"Software Imaging has leveraged its extensive knowledge
of printing technology to build security directly into the print
process," added Jon Williams, Group Product Manager, "PrintSec
is the simple way for digital copier and network printer/MFP manufacturers
to close this potentially damaging hole in today's so-called 'secure'
solutions."
PrintSec is available now and can be licensed both as part of Software Imaging's Component Driver Architecture (CDA) toolkit or independently, enabling security for non-Software Imaging driver technologies such as Microsoft Unidrv or printer manufacturers' own custom drivers.
A working PrintSec reference design is also available to help customers
minimize their development costs and expedite the support of true
end-to-end security within their devices.
